New year… but not new me just a better version of the current me.
Wanting a new me suggests starting
from fresh and wiping the slate clean, but the truth is we are a sum of our experiences both the good and the bad. A quote that always resinated but now more than ever is-
“every moment and every event in a mans life plants a seed in his sole”
The good experiences are always memories that should be treasured but at the same time its the challenges that life throws at us that give us the strongest lessons that force us to grow and develop.
I came in to 2025 a broken man. Emotional dullness and physical pain as i withdrew from my antidepressants and anti anxiety medication which i no longer wanted to take. I recall being in my flat surrounded by family watching the manchester skyline light up with fireworks and just feeling empty. Hosting once felt exciting but on this night i Just wanted everyone to leave…
It was true rock bottom, but its true what they say. From the bottom there is only one way to go.
I started the year with one simple goal. This year i wasnt just going to survive. This year i was going to work towards thriving.
And whilst big parts of that meant starting again and rebuilding everything that had tumbled. I was rebuilding on new stronger foundations that were forged on past struggles and mistakes. This time i had a map of the potholes so i knew to avoid them (granted i still drove through a few of them again… No body is perfect ok)
But this year i learnt resilience, i learnt to be stonger, less intimidated by change and new experiences and most importantly i stoped alowing lifes preasure to weigh me down when there where people around me willing to share the burden!
This years achievements
- I started to socialise again. Making new friends and reaforming old friendships witj people who. Brought joy to my life.
- I ended relationships with people who didnt provode me strength and happiness. What good is it having freindships with those who still leave you to feel lonely.
- I pushed myself beyond my comfort zone and started doing things that once seemed so scary like traveling alone, dining alone or actually just doing anything alone!
- I lost 20kg… This was a big one because when you Look Good you start feeling more confident and more willing to put yourself out there. Also loosing that. Much weight gives the perfect excuse to be buying a whole new wardrobe and giving yourself a rebrand.
I wrote this post whilst. Prepairing for this years annual new years eve party that i will be hosting. The decorations are up the food is ready and the drinks have been made.
For this years party there will be one small difference and that is… I will actually be present physically mentally and emotionally i am ready and here for the good time.
By taking small steps in 2025 i have made leaps in becoming a better version of myself but the work is still more to be done. Which is why i proudly say bring on 2026. The highs, the lows, the new experiences and most importantly the new destinations because ive said it once and i will say it again… Is there any therapy more effective than travel therapy!
