Later Isn’t a Destination

Its never too late to make a change and start saying yes.

Like most people, I lived a big part of my life with a “strategic plan.” Everything had to make sense. Everything had to align. If an opportunity didn’t fit neatly into that plan, it was easy to dismiss.

“Not the right time.”

“Doesn’t make sense long term.”

“I’ll do it later.”

Later… being that magical place where all good intentions go to quietly disappear.

Now I find myself wondering how many opportunities I missed. How many moments life put in front of me that I turned down — not because I didn’t want them, but because they didn’t match what I thought my life should look like.

And the irony?

That plan I was so committed to… wasn’t actually leading anywhere.

It’s easy to look back on that with a bit of disappointment. To feel like you let life pass you by while you were busy trying to control it.

What’s not easy… is recognising that pattern and choosing to do something different.

One thing that stuck with me from A-Level Psychology was the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Slightly dramatic, maybe, but also painfully accurate.

Because if we don’t change, if we don’t evolve, how can we expect anything in our lives to be different?

At some point, the overthinking, the planning, the waiting for the “perfect moment” has to stop. And something else has to begin.

For me, that something is spontaneity.
Not reckless, throw-all-responsibility-out-the-window chaos — I’m not quitting my job to become a beach DJ just yet — but a willingness to say yes more often

Yes to the flight.
Yes to the last-minute plans.
Yes to meeting new people.
Yes to experiences that don’t come with a five-year forecast.

Because honestly… what’s the worst that can happen?

It’s not great? Fine. You’ve got a story and a lesson.

But what if it is great?

What if that one decision — the one you almost said no to — shifts your mindset completely? Changes your direction. Introduces you to someone who alters your path.

We spend so much time worrying about making the “right” decision that we forget that sometimes the value is just in making a decision.

People love to say, “Enjoy your 20s. That’s
when you’re free. That’s when you should live.”

I bought into that idea — just in reverse.
I thought I’d get all the responsibility out of the way early. Work hard, build stability, follow the plan… and then enjoy life later.

Turns out, life doesn’t really work like that.
There’s always something. More responsibility. More reasons to wait. More excuses that sound completely valid in the moment.

So now, in my 30s, I’ve made a decision.
This is the time.
The time to enjoy.
The time to take chances.
The time to stop waiting for permission — from life, from circumstances, from myself.
The time to say yes.

Because I’d rather try something and realise it wasn’t for me… than sit five years down the line wondering “what if?”

So if you’re waiting for a sign — this is it.

Stop waiting for tomorrow.
Stop waiting for everything to align perfectly.

Say yes today.

You never know which moment might change everything.
