More about Culture Travel
Culture travel, for me, isn’t about ticking off every museum in the guidebook. It’s standing outside Gwanghwamun Gate watching the guard change and realising I’ve accidentally been there forty minutes. It’s the moment a city stops being a backdrop for photos and starts being somewhere real people actually live.
I’m a 9-5 traveller, so I don’t get months to soak up a place. What I’ve learned (mostly the hard way) is that trying to see everything means you end up understanding nothing. One neighbourhood done properly beats five landmarks done at a jog.
These are the trips where I slowed down enough to notice things: the festivals I stumbled into, the traditions I didn’t understand at first, and the itineraries I actually followed (sort of). Less performance, more paying attention.
